This week our company helped several clients unclog sewer lines, bathroom sink/tubs, kitchen sinks and floor drains. But two of those jobs were special when we opened up a line that two other companies couldn’t and we saved each client $5000 on excavating costs. It’s always a good feeling to keep clients happy especially if they really don’t have to dig.
Just cause your sewer line has roots doesn’t mean you have a dig and excavate just yet.

If you have a power flusher on a toilet, could it malfunction?
Very interesting question to answer. Do power flush toilets ever plug up? People tend to think that power flush toilet will 100% never clog up, well think again. Everything breaks down and nothing works perfect. Power flush toilet will back up eventually. Look at the picture below to see the difference in what the inside of a power flush toilet looks like compared to a regular gravity flushing toilet.
If your in need of a plumber and or plumbing company to unclog a toilet or any fixture (shower, bathroom sink/tub, kitchen sink, laundry tub etc.) call Willard’s Plumbing today and set up an appointment.
We look forward to hearing from you.
Ballcock or Float Valve inside toilet tanks
Inside of what most toilet tanks look like.
While most toilets are still gravity flush being installed some residential and commercial clients are switching to power flush. The main reason for the switch has to do with the newer toilets being 1.6 gallon flushes instead of the 3.6 gallons per flush. Back in the day before the 1.6 gallon flushing toilets were announced toilet didn’t clog up as much due to all the water pressure behind the flush. The reason for the switch was to save on water and money.
While gravity toilets are still the number one buy due to cost they still work fine if the user doesn’t abuse the situation. While you have a power flush toilet of gravity flush they still can both get clogged if the right amount of debris all goes down at the same time. The key to not having a clogged toilet is by knowing and understand how your particular toilet works. We suggest not using the thickest toilet paper in the new 1/6 gallon flushing toilets.
The power flushing toilet is like the Mercedes of the toilet industry. Though not many people know how to replace parts this toilet will treat you well and you’ll almost never have to worry about clogs. When parts malfunction and wear our a plumber will have to install new parts and maybe have to order a cartridge from out of town. Some supply houses carry them but being that each batch has a different model most need to be specially ordered.
When weighing the pros and cons one which toilet to buy the main factors are the following:
1. Cost
2. In case of malfunctioning toilet do you have a back up toilet
3. Cost
The main difference comes down to cost they are pricey, just starting installation for a power flush toilet is just under $525 (with toilet).
It only takes roughly $300 to install a normal gravity flushing toilet (with toilet). Our company has installed pricey gravity flushing toilets as well, with the unit just costing under $800.
Add up your own pros and cons before purchasing anything in life and we know you’ll make the right decisions. Always ask family and friends and take your time to make any big decision.

Maintaining roots in your sewer line
The idea about letting you sewer line clog up and then have it professional cleaned is all wrong. Letting roots grow and thicken is the worst possible idea. Having your sewer line cleaned yearly is the way to go. Camera your line if necessary and just hire a drain cleaner you trust or a friend recommends. Make sure the job is getting done right.
Call Willard’s Plumbing today for help on cleaning roots from your sewer line before it’s to late.
Why are roots so common?
Roots have a tendency to grow and thicken as they age. By not cleaning out your main sewer line professionally each and every year you will be at risk of excavation. Once your sewer line has a one stop repair or if you choose to replace your entire sewer line roots will get back into your line eventually. Cleaning all the hardened debris from your line is also the smart way of maintaining your sewer system.
We’ve seen clients that have repaired sections of their sewer line to PVC pipe and roots have broken through that as well. Number one way to get rid of roots is to professionally auger out your sewer system yearly. There is more then roots growing in your line. Auguring is a term used for snaking out one’s sewer system.
Hire a company that has been around for a while and is known for treating clients right. Bigger companies aren’t better cause they can service you within 30 minutes. Bigger companies our out for themselves and honestly will convince you of service you need done that you really don’t
Are there rats in your sewer line?
Today our company was working at a clients home in West. St. Paul and we discovered rats living in their sewer line.
Before we cleaned the sewer line we inserted our camera into the line to check on the condition of the pipe. We saw missing pipe and dirt wholes which is not a good sign. When running the camera further and further done into the sewer line we started to see movement. Finally, we notice it was a rat running around back and forth in the sewer line. The homeowners were freaked out and were told to repair sections of their sewer pipe. In cases where rats or any animals or found in ones sewer line be sure to have your basement toilet seat down and maybe even put some weight on the seat. Yes, animals can and will make their way up the line and possibly into your home.
Willard’s Plumbing is here to help you every step of the way.
Is your Kitchen Sink clogged?
Kitchen sinks need to always function. We use our kitchen sinks many times throughout the day. A kitchen sink is the main plumbing of the kitchen. Installing a good faucet is very important as well. If you plan on entertaining make sure your well equipped with the right tools. There are several different reasons a kitchen sink may get clogged. Plugged sinks can be caused by overloading of the garbage disposal or just accidentally having an object fall down into the drain. People say that using a garbage disposal is bad but I say just make sure you know how to properly use your disposal. My garbage disposal is my best friend. If your disposal is backing up often get a better and higher horse powered unit. If your kitchen sink has a lot of bends that could also be a factor as to why your drain backs up. Drain pipes that are galvanized should be replaced as well to pvc.
Willard’s Plumbing has several decades of practice working on kitchen sink drain and water lines so call us today for any kitchen problems.
Commercial Drain Cleaning
Our company provides reliable and trustworthy service to both commercial and residential clients. Time and time again I’ve seen companies take advantage of commercial properties. I don’t disagree that commercial drains and plumbing should be a bit higher but I’ve notice some companies charging an arm and leg higher. If a company charges $120 for a sewer line cleaning for the first hour the price for a commercial property should be $150 maximum for the first hour. If a company increases there rates over double (which some do) their taking peer advantage of a situation.
Our company is known for charging fair rates for plumbing & drain cleaning services to both commercial and residential clients. Our database of customer return rate is high and that makes our company feel good and accomplished. We treat each client with the respect they deserve.
If you have drains backing up or plumbing that you need repaired or installed call Willard’s Plumbing company.
Drains that you know get clogged every so often you should have addressed before an issue occurs. Waiting to clean a drain until it’s clogged is not the proper time to clean a drain. Roots and all sort of other debris will get hardened into your pipe.
Call Willard’s Plumbing today for all drain cleaning and plumbing issues.
